Love it or hate it?

For as long as I can remember I've not missed a show; as a child I was a huge fan as this night we'd be allowed to stay up and watch as a family. As a teenager staying up late as the votes from the jury from each country arrived continued to appeal and now as an adult the institution continues. This year we were joined by Grandma and Grandpa whilst Lil'F bounced around for the first few numbers and practiced her new trick of standing unaided. Master E commented like an old hand, announcing that the voting was the best bit whilst Madam enjoyed the flamboyant costumes and dancing.

My mother reminded me of the contest in 1997 as they were away in Hong Kong I obviously felt they should be involved and said I'd phone with the results. Not wanting an expensive phone bill they firmly told me to only phone if we won assuming it would never happen. Oh yes we did!! So at 4am they got an excited phone call from me announcing our triumph.

It wasn't the year I expected to win though, that was 1994 when I loved this song and was convinced it would be our year - I still really like it...

Getting into the party mood...

Yes I feel we have a lot to celebrate because in one week it'll be 1 year since letting Master E loose on my laptop to write a post to say hello after he noticed me reading blogs and said we should have one - how right he was and what a journey it's been!!

Whilst I got immersed in design, badges, networks, communities and twitter he went back out to play but not before helping me name us Family Four Fun. We didn't realise them how fitting that would be and not only would we share our fun but be invited to fun days out and become finalists in the family fun category at the MAD Blog Awards!!

I had no idea writing a few things online could be so compulsive, therapeutic and social or how many other amazing people I'd get to know. Considering myself part of a community of like minded mothers has had a greater impact on me that I would ever have imagined. I've become more confident, have a greater feeling of self-esteem and feel its making me a better parent.

I think this may have played a part in our huge decision to move back to London; after 5 years of living in the countryside we had to accept it wasn't for us. There was so much to sort out when we got back, schools for the children, a house, doctors - the blog was a place to escape and vent!

Of the many opportunities I've had as a blogger one of the best has to be the chance to give something back. Whether its just a little helpful advice or a smile from something I've written, a giveaway, or getting involved in charitable events and spreading awareness.

So in a similar way that I gave Lil'F's 1st birthday gifts to Comic Relief I'm sharing my Blogaversary gifts with you readers. Every day for the next week or so I've arranged the chance for you to win some great prizes. The first prize which was kindly donated by Blossoms Healthcare is Dr Christian's Guide to Growing Up'. His book is full of advice for parents of adolescents to ease the fears and uncertainties during puberty.
