National Storytelling Week with Giraffe & Barefoot Books…
This Saturday (26th jan) sees the start of National Storytelling Week, at school E has been talking about stories from different cultures and for homework was sent home to talk about a story from our culture. When I asked him what story he would tell his teacher he said ‘The Night Before Christmas’. I thought this was perfect. First published in a newspaper in 1823 this poem has become famous told by generation to generation as a Christmas Eve tradition for hundreds of years since. This is what National Storytelling Week is about; the passing on of stories that inspire and enlighten the mind.
Barefoot Books have teamed up with Giraffe Restaurant and are celebrating this event by offering a free child’s meal (with a paying adult) to any child seen reading in their restaurants between Monday 28th Jan and Friday 1st Feb. To encourage reading 36 Giraffe Restaurants will carry a mini library of Barefoot Books for families to share.
Both Barefoot Books and Giraffe are fun, family focused company dedicated to providing quality experiences to treasure..
We visited our local Giraffe and that is exactly what we found. Giraffe maintains a quality and upmarket restaurant feel in a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and mostly because we did not feel the need to quieten the children who chatted and giggled happily over their meal. The clientele was incredibly mixed, there was another family there but being a Friday night, couples and groups of friends too. We were offered the children’s meals with our starters and as they were hungry we decided this would be best. I was a little concerned this could cause them to get bored whilst we ate our meals but with the activity sheet on the table and practically a zoo full of plastic giraffes they were more than entertained. The quality of the food was wonderful, the children’s portions perfect size and then there was warm chocolate pudding and cocktails!!
That’s not all Giraffe and Barefoot Books have to offer. There’s also a prize draw on both websites, for five winners to each receive a Barefoot Books library worth £350 and a £100 Giraffe voucher. On top of that, Barefoot Books are running a 25% off deal on our website throughout the year, as well as Giraffe money-off vouchers up for grabs!
This is a great event for families to get involved in and Barefoot Books and Giraffe are making it easy for you to turn it into a very special occasion.
Giraffe invited us for a meal so we could tell you about their experience and become so addicted to their chocolate pudding we’d need to visit again!
