The Adventures of Grandma & Grandpa…

Part 10 – Phanom to Sirindthon

Another very belated update which I’ve now been reprimanded for but I did warn in my introduction that they’re incredibly hard to keep track of. As this is the news they sent my a week ago quite honestly I haven’t a clue where they are now.

You can’t blame me; in the time they’ve been gone (5 months) we’ve moved from Ireland back to London, 750km whilst they’ve cycled over 4000km. We’ve crossed one border and tackled countless runs between schools and afterschool activities – they’ve crossed 6 borders and had 3 punctured tyres…

Thailand border

On New Years Day they began cycling to 4000 islands, which sounds fantastic but was apparently was 150km of very boring Tarmac road with very little accommodation. They got ‘ferries’ between places – the ‘ferries’ are actually narrow wooden boats some which they had to stand on and hold their bikes. This is such a nightmare scenario for me that I actually feel wobbly at the very thought! They’re currently rewarding themselves for their efforts and relaxing in a bungalow by a reservoir and eating at floating restaurants…

I’ve not managed a map this time – I did try but it didn’t look right – I think they may be lost..?
