Friday Flashback

Lil’F – A Friday Flashback…

Li’F was delivered 6 weeks early after my placenta begun to fail and her growth slowed. I was going to write her full birth story but quite honestly it was such a horrific experience I don’t want to terrify anyone else! In short, after my waters were broken and labour didn’t start I had to have a C-Section. I didn’t get complete pain relief so it was agony throughout and on hindsight I wish I’d let them put me under general instead of making my poor husband watch me suffer. Even after a wealth of painkillers in recovery I was still screaming in pain on the ward less than an hour later. Obviously this is a rare occurrence as the nurse stared at me in disbelief and had to call a consultant to find out what else they could give me. Thank goodness she wasn’t my first or she’d probably be an only child!

It was all complicated further by C being downstairs in Paediatrics and two children at home to consider too. F was born weighing 4lb 2oz which was much better than the estimated 3lb 8oz. Although I was too blinded by drugs to see her as soon as I heard her cry every bit of her traumatic entrance was worth it…

At first I couldn’t hold her, she was taken to neonatal where she needed help with her breathing and a little extra support to feed and grow. It was 3 weeks before she could come home which felt like forever at the time. We had a similar experience with C but he had progressed far quicker, we later learnt that F had swabbed positive for MRSA which had been a reason for them keeping her incubated longer.

It was a tough few weeks and an absolute relief when we brought her home and could settle back to normal life – or as normal as it gets with four children…

Even in neonatal she refused be ignored and screamed and made a fuss for attention. She’s come a long way in a year which has flown like they do. she’s still a little doll but incredibly determined, strong and already ordering her siblings around before she can talk or walk.

She wasn’t planned, she had a shaky start but completes our family perfectly – a very special little girl…

For her birthday we’re sharing our blessings by donating it to Comic Relief, you can read more here.
