The 2013 Show…

We’ve had such an amazing year and I feel lucky for having such beautiful happy and healthy children. Yes they are lively and lots of work, able to push my buttons until all I’m good for is rocking in a corner. Yet fun we have in-between doesn’t just make those times worth it, it makes them insignificant and easily forgettable.

I quote ‘I feel lucky’ because my Grandfather would say…

‘You work very hard at being lucky.’

We lost him this year although we have been slowly losing him since his diagnosis with Alzheimer’s Disease. Our loss allows us to remember the person he was before this terrible illness took hold. A true gentleman from West London with style and class, always polite and courtious and incredibly intellegent. His morals may have been old-fashioned yet his outlook never was, he was tech savvy, the first person to show me a digital camera and I think he would be very interested in my blog. From him I inherit a love of musicals, such a beautifyl gift to leave.

For our family this year has probably been one of the most settled in that it started and ended in the same house although we’ve had our fair share of new starts with Master E in school, C in Nursery & a new job for hubby. Settled doesn’t mean boring without having a holiday abroad we still had the most amazing days out and adventures in London – topped off with the most amazing summer ever.

We had a 1st birthday in aid of Comic Relief with Team Honk, a 3rd birthday on a Haven Holiday. Madam celebrated her 7th birthday with a pool party which was a blessing in the midst of a heat wave. Finally I topped off summer with my eldest and a visit to Thorpe Park for his 9th.

The blog has taken us to some amazing places this year; Warner Bros Studios which we’re not at all surprised has been voted as a family favourite. A summer festival at Lollibop, an autumal Bear Hunt and Winter Wonderland. Lunch at ASK Italian, Halloween with River Island and Christmas with Nintendo. We’ve been on some incredible adventures around the London Underground, Along the Monopoly Board and on a MAD day out!!We were also chosen to be Butlin’s Ambassadors so we know the fun will continue into next year…

Being voted finalists in Family Fun at the MAD Blog Awards is a highlight of the year for me, for which I am unspeakably grateful and an honored runners up to the fabulous Fiona at Coombe Mill. Blogging has taken me out of my comfort zone but by doing so I’ve made some wonderful friends including a best one in Ruth from Rock n Roller Baby – I didn’t expect any of this when I first started writing and feel blessed.

In the clip you will see Madam blowing bubbles into the sky to send a baby with the same name as her into the sky on her final journey. I find it hard to describe my feelings for a family I’ve never met but we mourned with you, we celebrated her life with you and we wished we could bring you comfort. If I was amazed how the strength of community carried Jennie Edspire through this time it was nothing compared to my respect and admiration at her courage. This has since seen her raise thousands for The Lullaby Trust and ensuring that Matilda Mae’s Legacy will not just continue in many families who know her story but hopefully more in the future too.

I have a really positive feeling about 2014 – all the 10′s and 4′s in the year make me think there’s something special about it. After all we are Family Four Fun and this is ‘my decade’, 10 years married and 10 as a mother and my parent’s have been married 40 years.

So I wish you all a fun-filled and lucky 2014.
