Easter Fun with Star Wars books…

Easter can be mixed when it comes to holidays, it’s a great time to get outdoors and sometimes the weather allows for this and at others, it doesn’t. Well, these Easter holidays have started on a glorious note and without too many plans we were very grateful to be able to lounge in the garden. When the sun went in we had plenty of activities on standby just in case.

One such thing was a set of Star Wars books the main one in the collection being Star Wars: Make & Do. This book includes lots of craft ideas, instructions for drawing Star Wars characters and a large pad of paper for practising on. One of the crafts in the book is a Darth Maul T-Shirt and inspired by this we printed templates to create our own Star Wars t-shirt designs…

This was a really simple craft with impressive results and I made easier by cutting out the templates for them. I was grateful to the book for the idea and it has quite a few more, papier mache masks and finger puppet that I could adapt for the children to do. Overall, however, the tasks crafts are a little bit tricky for younger children and probably best for ages 8+.

The other two books have been enjoyed by the boys in the evening; Star Wars Rogue One: A Junior Novel is a re-telling of the story, simplified for ages 8-12. Cian is 7 and although he would struggle with it I know lots in his class would be able to manage and thoroughly enjoy the story in a chapter book aimed at their ability. E is twelve and breezed through but really enjoyed this, his attention span can still be lacking when it comes to books and so it suits him to have something manageable.

Star Wars, The Force Awakens is a beautifully illustrated picture book and with a little less writing and more to look at is absolutely ideal for Cian. It is a slight challenge that he can manage with help and that is perfect for his current learning needs. All the books are published by Egmont and available from Amazon. A number of bloggers have been enjoying them and trying out Star Wars crafts this month, so if you’ve got a Star Wars fan at home pop across to Sarah at Boo Roo & Tigger Too and see what they’ve been getting up to with theirs…
