fun ideas fathers day

Fun ideas for Father’s Day…

If you’re thinking this post is pretty last minute, then you’d be right and if you’re worrying that I’m going to be making some great gift suggestions that you won’t be able to get in time for Sunday  – then don’t! I decided to write this post for the very last minute people like me who’ll be panicking about what can be done before Sunday and the very frivolous too. I wanted to remind you that it really is the thought that counts, however using this as an excuse when you haven’t put much thought into it won’t do.

Give Dad a break…

Dads like Mums work hard and deserve a little bit of TLC, let him have his turn to lie-in. Let him soak in nice long bath and make a nice big breakfast. So many gift guides suggest DIY tools but for some men that could be the equivalent of giving a Mother a hoover but it often seems true that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach! Of course, if DIY really is his thing, places like Engelbert Strauss have a great selection of tools and ppe equipment. This leads me onto my next point…

Do something he likes…

I think one of my husband’s favourite Father’s Days was when he went with the children to the Olympic BMX track at Lee Valley. He’s always had a passion for bikes and skateboards and this year plans to go with the children for a skate at House of Vans and treat himself to ribs and chips after. If it’s a cycle around the park with a picnic, a trip to the local pool, going to watch the cricket on a local green, or something entirely different; getting together to do something he really enjoys will show how much you care.

Spend time together…

For the evening, head to Netflix or similar to find one of his favourite films for the family to enjoy together. Now TV currently have an introductory offer of 1 month of Sky Cinema for just £1! Get some snacks prepared and have the chores for the week ahead out the way. If you’ve spent the rest of the day rushing around ensuring breakfast is made etc then you’ll be as grateful as him for a settled evening.

Remember it’s not the big but the little gestures, make the day all about the things he enjoys. Make it fun so the kids get to share all their Dad’s best bits and celebrate having him around!
