I’ve got a really positive feeling about this year!
I don’t know why exactly, maybe it’s because it’s one I thought about when I considered ‘the future’. This time 10 years ago was a time of much celebration; instead of heading back out on the to work we had extended our christmas and New Year festivities with a wedding. I was collecting a dress, packing favours, decorations and jewellery ready to head off to Cornwall for our big day and to top it all off had just found out I was pregnant!
I can remember thinking that my tiny newborn boy would be 10 in 2014, that we would be married 10 years. I wondered what he’d be like and where we’d be but I didn’t consider the journey we’d have been on to get here. 4 houses, 2 countries, 3 more children and so many occasions in between – family weddings, new cousins and an incomprehensible loss.
I know some of the things that will definitely happen this year…
- We’ll celebrate our 10 year anniversary
- We’re going to Butlin’s in half-term
- Fifi will be baptised and turn 2.
- Madam will celebrate her 1st Communion and turn 8.
- C will turn 4.
- Master E will reach double figures!
- Mum & Dad will be married 40yrs and we’ll have a big family holiday.
- C will start school!
What I can’t be sure of is the journey we’ll go on to reach these milestones. As a mother it’s such a lot to consider, so much planning, packing, organising! So when I read Dorky Mum talking about Susannah’s tips for planning your year by selecting one word to pack it together and keep in mind, I chose…
2004 was filled with excitement about the future and the journey ahead but after the initial joy of becoming a parent comes the exhaustion and at times monotonous routine. It’s easy to view milestones like a party or the start of school as just another chore and task on the to-do list.
By nature I’m enthusiastic but this has somewhat been over-shadowed by the thought of work involved of late. So in 2014 I aim to embrace everything with enthusiasm…
I gave myself some time off over Christmas and made the most of the slower pace of the season and feel refreshed for doing so. I spent last week planning because on top of all the family events, I’m also looking forward to bringing Family Four Fun into 2014 and working on a new project. On Silent Sunday I showed the cover of the lovely blog planner I downloaded from My joy-filled Life, it’s so thorough that I really feel armed with this I will for once be focused and on-track.
We’ve already got a break away to look forward to in February! I haven’t been on a Butlin’s holiday before but since meeting Laura from Tired Mummy of Two with the Butlin’s red coats at The Mum’s Show live and seeing her genuine affection for and positivity about her holidays I knew we had to go. Being picked as Ambassadors was an unexpected privilege that guaranteed it and I now Christmas is out the way I’ve started reading and planning in earnest.
Our friends visited just after Christmas and I have to admit that just like research revealed I was in the majority that didn’t know Butlin’s was open over the Christmas season. Not only are they open but they guarantee a white Christmas with their snowstorm show in the Skyline Pavilion – Juggle Mum has a picture of this on her blog and it looks amazing!
We’ll be staying at The Wave Hotel at Butlin’s Bognor Regis which we chose for a number of reasons; first being that it’s the closest so we can get the maximum time enjoying our stay instead of travelling. I also love the idea of hotel accommodation, especially in February when I fear it could still be pretty chilly. Looking at accounts from This is Life who gives some great tips for planning in advance and Lakes Single Mum’s of the hotel I’m confident I’ve chosen the right one and can’t wait to see the children’s reactions to personal TVs in their bunks!
Having both younger and older children it’s always a concern that someone will miss out but Twin Tiaras and Tantrums review of the entertainment as ‘the best around’ (for under 5’s) is incredibly reassuring. I already know that the older children will be spoilt with their favourite double act Dick & Dom performing along with daredevil shows at Cirque du Hilarious – they’re going to love it. Oh and the food, we have a restaurant dining package so won’t be cooking and you just have to see this post by Lilinha Angel’s World to drool over what we’ll have instead!
With this in mind it should be easy to enthusiastically
face count down the days of school-run routine until our family break.
Is there something you’re enthusiastic about happening in 2014?
