Fun to Read
Well, January was in all honesty not a lot of fun! I usually try not to moan about these things or that January drags because I know it’ll get to the end and the rest of the year will fly by, but this year I’m glad to see the back of it! There was no time for reading anything much because to start the year this blog was broken so I spent all my time emailing web support and trying to remember what and how I set things up when I first started. I did however come across this meme which summed up the way I spent much of the month feeling – they’re another thing that I don’t usually pay much attention to but found myself nodding at quite regularly.
Fun to Watch
There are two things we’ve all thoroughly enjoyed watching this month. Having taken it up as a hobby ourselves, Dancing on Ice is the perfect thing to sit down and watch as a family on a Sunday night. Also having taken it up, we know how hard it is, it’s unbelievable to see the level some of the celebrities have got to and they’re so brave to attempt the stunts that they do. I love that it further inspires the children to practice and get better, although I don’t think I’d ever be able to watch them perform the headbanger!
The other is the third How to Train Your Dragon movie: The Hidden World. We were really lucky to be invited to the most amazing press screening where the children were dressed as Vikings with braids and warpaint and enrolled into dragon training academy. Having graduated they were invited to enter The Hidden World where we watched the film in a wonderful immersive experience where the walls glowed as they discovered The Hidden World in the film. When they left the screening their own face paint had been magically lit and they too glowed. The final film in the How to Train Your Dragon Trilogy is action-packed but also emotional as it teaches the lesson that sometimes when you truly love something you have to let it go.
Fun to Eat (or Drink)
We had a break in London for our Anniversary weekend and took a walk past the original Twinings Tea shop which I’ve been meaning to visit for some time. It’s been there since 1706 and is a tiny treasure trove of teas with a small museum at the back. You can taste all their blends before you buy and I selected a very pretty pink box of London Edition Green Tea with Peppermint and Rose to take home.
Nice tea forced us to replace our kettle with a Britta filter one because the amount of limescale we get drives me insane!
Fun to Wear
Also for our Wedding Anniversary, the lovely people at Bloom Boutique sent me a personalised necklace with our initials on. It’s a really pretty sterling silver plated rose gold and feels really good quality for a great value price. There are so many nice pieces on their site and I’ll definitely be using them for gifts in future.
Fun to Play
This month we discovered Lego Life which was perfect timing because all the Lego is still out post-Xmas. Whilst we play with Lego year round, for some reason it’s become tradition that it all gets pulled out and sorted and old sets made around Christmas time. This year the children had all their creations on an old table to make a scene. Lego life is like an Instagram of Lego but 100% child safe. They can’t give out their names and every image has to be approved so they can’t upload images which may have school logos on or anything that could betray their identity. Yet to them they feel like they’ve been allowed onto grown-up social media and spent hours photographing their scene to try and get likes!
Fun to Do
After the Christmas break, we were all delighted to get back to ice-skating. The children have got up into the levels where there need to work harder and practice to progress and I love watching their determination. We skate at Queens Ice Skating Rink in London and I’ve written a bit about the lessons if you’re interested in hearing more.
I hope you had a fun January and if not, at least it’s finally over and February’s bound to pass in the blink of an eye!
